Preschool and Elementary School Education

Chief of Elementary Education

Peter Ramirez

The Division of Preschool and Elementary School Education is responsible for monitoring and assisting preschool activities and programs and administering and maintaining the Pohnpei public elementary school system.

One of the primary responsibilities of the division is to ensure that preschool activities and programs are of high quality, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with the Pohnpei State Early Childhood Education Curriculum Framework. This involves working closely with early childhood educators to provide guidance, support, and resources that enhance the quality of care and education provided to young children.

Additionally, the division oversees the administration of the Pohnpei public elementary school system, including evaluating teacher performance and developing and implementing the school curriculum. This involves providing ongoing professional development opportunities for elementary school teachers to enhance their knowledge and skills and ensure that they are equipped to provide quality education to their students.

To carry out its responsibilities effectively, the division works closely with other divisions within the Department of Education, as well as parents, community organizations, and other stakeholders. The goal is to create a robust foundation for the academic and personal success of young children in Pohnpei State. With everyone working together, the division aims to ensure that every child has access to high-quality education, setting them up for success in the future.
